|A Near Year, and we have a New Entrance!!|
The past few weeks have been quite busy around our part of the village so it’s wonderful to see Hermanus packed with visitors again – it’s been way too long. The High Street makeover was completed a while ago and although we might be a bit late to party, we now have a new entrance complete with barn doors and signage, and keeping with all the other shops we also have flower baskets to add a splash of colour!
In stock: Cirrus Pinot Noir
New to the Jean Engelbrecht portfolio is the Cirrus Pinot Noir. The 2020 marks the first vintage of wines made from this unique vineyard on Rietfontein farm on the Ceres Plateau. At an altitude of 1026m above sea level, the moderate summers, snowy winters and intense solar rays create an environment that produces Pinot Noir expressive of this totally new landscape and terroir. Jean says it has ‘Intense bouquet of wild strawberry, raspberry, and undergrowth. A mineral note adds an element of seriousness. Vibrant red fruit carries through on the palate, with layers of vanilla, sour cherry, and cigar box adding complexity. Focussed acidity and silky, fine-grained tannins are well integrated.’
Saturday | Sunday Weekend tasting: This weekend we will be tasting the ‘Rose-Mary’ Blanc De Noir and Pinot Noir from Waterford Estate in Stellenbosch.
Here are their tasing notes:
Rose-Mary Blanc De Noir: A blend of Shiraz, Mourvedre, Malbec, Cinsaut, Tempranillo and Sangiovese. This is a wine with delicate apricot, fresh cherry, white floral and citrus blossom on the aromatics, with hints of fresh oregano. The palate is invitingly fresh with naartjie, apricot and young nectarine flavours following through to a long aftertaste.
Pinot Noir: The aromatics are layered with ripe wild berries, cherry tobacco and savoury cherry tomatoes. The palate also shows robust and intense but still vibrant and elegant flavours, which is in line with the character of Pinot Noir. The wine finishes with a lovely coating and savoury flavour and a refreshing balanced acidity. A wine promising to age gracefully over 10 years.
They sound delicious so join us to taste these 2 wines!

Have you ever heard about a great wine but could never find a bottle for yourself (to share with friends, of course)? Well, the team at Wine & Company do all the hard work for you! We visit wine farms and attend tastings to find, taste, and then stock wine from the smaller Estates and independent winemakers who buy grapes and produce outstanding wine under their own labels – much the same as the French negociants have been doing for centuries. Given that these winemakers make wine in such small quantities, sometimes just a single barrel, their wine will never be found on the shelves of the major retailers, but only in specialist shops like Wine & Company on High Street, Hermanus.
In addition to the great selection of well-known wines and MCC’s, we also stock local craft gin and beer, French Champagne, Belgian Ales as well as whisky and other spirits. Wine & Company (established in 1998 by Bartho Eksteen) has a well-earned reputation for stocking hard-to-find small-batch wines and we strive to continue this great tradition. If you purchase a bottle of wine from us and it is faulty we will gladly replace the bottle and return the faulty wine to the winemaker.
Feel free to contact Wine & Company if you need a particular wine and we will do our best to source it for you. We are also able to ship wine locally and to most countries so do ask about international shipping.
Thank you for your support – stay safe – see you soon!
