Boschkloof Epilogue Syrah!
Now in stock – Boschkloof Epilogue Syrah!
One of the ‘allocation’ wines we are always happy to receive is the Epilogue Syrah, from Boschkloof in Stellenbosch. At Boschkloof their farming methods are as sustainable as possible – all the grapes are handpicked to secure the quality of fruit before they enter the cellar and their aim is to make site-specific wines to showcase the beautiful soils their vineyards grow in.

Boschkloof Tasting Note: “The 2021 vintage of Boschkloof Epilogue shows amazing potential for ageing. Its loaded with perfumed lavender combined with hints of oak spices. The true beauty of this wine, however, is the firm but fine tannin structure. A wine that lingers and salivate. The taste is lively and intense, with a good concentration of fruit, bright acidity, and tannins that are firm yet fine. The wine is pure, precise, and has a succulent character without being sweet. The flavour and structure of the wine are intricate and captivating, and while it is already hard to resist, it is expected to mature well and be enjoyed between 2025 to 2029. Number of bottles produced ~ 4000.”

Weekend tasting:
Part of the Jean Engelbrecht portfolio, the “Stellenbosch Reserve” range comprises seven wines, red and white, and this weekend we will be tasting the Cinsault which, like the others, captures that beautiful balance between accessibility and seriousness.

Winemaker’s Notes: Cinsault grapes were fermented in open top fermenters with 25% of the grapes left as whole bunches, and 75% destemmed and left as whole berry. The grapes were not crushed in order to capture fruit purity and varietal definition. Fermentation and maceration took place over a periodof 7 days before pressing. Maturation took place in seasoned 500L French oak barrels for 12 months.

Tasting Notes: Fragrant potpourri is followed by polished red fruit. Pomegranate and cranberry dominate, layered with aromas of nutmeg and cinnamon. Fine, velvety tannins are balanced by zippy acidity. Floral and fruity flavours follow through from the nose, with spicy, savoury black pepper adding interest to the juicy palate. Bright pomegranate and pepper on the finish.

About Us
Have you ever heard about a great wine but could never find a bottle for yourself (to share with friends, of course)? Well, the team at Wine & Company do all the hard work for you! We visit wine farms and attend tastings to find, taste, and then stock wine from the smaller Estates and independent winemakers who buy grapes and produce outstanding wine under their own labels – much the same as the French negociants have been doing for centuries. Given that these winemakers make wine in such small quantities, sometimes just a single barrel, their wine will never be found on the shelves of the major retailers, but only in specialist shops like Wine & Company on High Street, Hermanus.

In addition to the great selection of well-known wines and MCC’s, we also stock local craft gin and beer, French Champagne, Belgian Ales as well as whisky and other spirits. Wine & Company (established in 1998 by Bartho Eksteen) has a well-earned reputation for stocking hard-to-find small-batch wines and we strive to continue this great tradition. If you purchase a bottle of wine from us and it is faulty we will gladly replace the bottle and return the faulty wine to the winemaker.

Feel free to contact Wine & Company if you need a particular wine and we will do our best to source it for you. We are also able to ship wine locally and to most countries so do ask about international shipping.
