![]() In stock: Vigne d’Or Chardonnay… ![]() The guys at Terre Paisible in Franschhoek tell us that “Our Chardonnay is a distinctive blend of grapes from our vineyards, as well as from renowned cool climate blocks. A balance which is so subtle and finessed that a true connoisseur will appreciate the nuances that come together so seamlessly. This wine is a blend of two distinctive components – seamlessly brought together to ensure a balance which is memorable. Within the blend, 50% of the grapes comes from our own Terre Paisible vineyards in Franschhoek valley – contributing rich, voluptuous character and fruit intensity. Aged in new French Oak barrels for 10 months giving structure and oak complexity. The remaining 50% was carefully selected from vineyards in Stellenbosch – known for smaller berries and concentrated flavours. Fermented and matured for 9 months in 500L neutral barrels this component provides crisp finesse and vibrance, resulting in exceptionally well-balanced Chardonnay. The trick with Chardonnay is balance and we think our Vigne d’ Or Chardonnay is a fine example of this, offering as it does a blend of crisp lightness with hints of French oak. This is an elegant full-bodied wine with ripe pear and peach flavours that make for excellent pairing with robust meat dishes, curries and spicy foods. Lime golden in appearance. Flashy Chardonnay aromatics. Custard apple, Key Lime pie, brioche and citrus blossom. The wine has a finely balanced palate held together by bracing acidity and creamy mouthfeel due to maturation in oak barrels.” That it was served at the Cannes Film Festival earlier this year should tell us that it is a special bottle of wine and we are very pleased to have it on our shelf! Saturday | Sunday Weekend tasting: ![]() This weekend we will be tasting the Raats ‘Jasper’….The Raats Tasting Notes for the Jasper ‘Bordeaux style’ red blend (50% Cabernet Franc, 43% Malbec, 3% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% Petit Verdot, 1% Merlot) tell us: “Exceptionally intense and complex on the nose with blackberry, black cherry and bramble in abundance and subtle hints of forest floor, dark chocolate, aniseed and spicy tobacco. The walk in the Black Forest continues with blue and blackberry dancing on a tight rope with focus and concentration, following through onto a perfectly balanced, fine-grained, velvety palate. The finish lingers with hints of fresh mint, cinnamon and perfume. Complex and structured.” 89 Points by Christian Eedes. 93 Points by Tim Atkin. 95 Points by Greg Sherwood MW. 4½ Stars John Platter. Stop in over the weekend to taste the Jasper and let us know you agree with……. Well, the team at Wine & Company do all the hard work for you! We visit wine farms and attend tastings to find, taste, and then stock wine from the smaller Estates and independent winemakers who buy grapes and produce outstanding wine under their own labels – much the same as the French negociants have been doing for centuries. Given that these winemakers make wine in such small quantities, sometimes just a single barrel, their wine will never be found on the shelves of the major retailers, but only in specialist shops like Wine & Company on High Street, Hermanus. In addition to the great selection of well-known wines and MCC’s, we also stock local craft gin and beer, French Champagne, Belgian Ales as well as whisky and other spirits. Wine & Company (established in 1998 by Bartho Eksteen) has a well-earned reputation for stocking hard-to-find small-batch wines and we strive to continue this great tradition. If you purchase a bottle of wine from us and it is faulty we will gladly replace the bottle and return the faulty wine to the winemaker. Feel free to contact Wine & Company if you need a particular wine and we will do our best to source it for you. We are also able to ship wine locally and to most countries so do ask about international shipping. Thank you for your support – stay safe – see you soon! |
