In stock: Ken Forrester ‘Old Vine’ Reserve Chenin Blanc![]() Ken Forrester is well known to be a master with Chenin Blanc, and recently this was proven when Decanter chose his 2021 ‘Old Vine’ Reserve Chenin Blanc as one of the “Best in Show” wines, and was awarded 97-points! From the Decanter World Wine Awards: After a record-breaking year for total wines tasted in 2021, the record was topped again this year with 18,244 wines judged from 54 countries. Across two weeks, almost 250 international wine experts, including 41 Masters of Wine and 13 Master Sommeliers, awarded 50 Best in Show, 163 Platinum, 678 Gold, 5,900 Silver and 8,074 Bronze medals. ![]() We are very happy to stock Ken Forrester’s wine! From Decanter, “We’ve had Chenin Blanc-based wines from the Loire in our Best In Show selection, but never yet a Chenin from the country with more of this variety planted than any rival nation: South Africa. That changed this year with this stylish Chenin from Stellenbosch. Gone was the sometimes over-fleshy, over-crafted style associated with ambitious Cape Chenins in the past. This pale gold, pure, fine-fruited wine hints at honey, spring flowers, pear and quince in its focussed, almost lacy aromas, while the palate is graceful and shapely, too, deftly balanced, and with a stony residuum that suggests deep-rooted old vines. An outstanding Chenin, in sum, perfectly pitched both as a varietal and as a Stellenbosch classic. “Tasting: Elgin Vintners ‘Cloud Haven’ ![]() Saturday | Sunday Weekend tasting: The ‘Cloud Haven’ red blend from Elgin Vintners is made from Merlot and Shiraz. The Merlot grapes were destemmed and whole berries fermented in stainless steel tank while the Shiraz was whole bunch fermented in open top wooden fermenters. After fermentation, the two wines were blended post-malolactic fermentation and aged for 6 months in tank with a combination of French oak staves. TASTING NOTES: An explosion of fresh ripe red berry fruits on the nose. Red cherry aromas mingled with soft oaky creamy notes entices further. Just enough soft tannin grip on the palate makes this an easy drinking wine. Ending with a long juicy finish. Stop in over the weekend to taste the Cloud Haven with us! Parking at Wine & Co There should always be an empty parking space in the corner next to our shop, but if not please feel free to stop directly in front of our shop while you are with us – this will save you time driving around looking for a parking space. |

Well, the team at Wine & Company do all the hard work for you! We visit wine farms and attend tastings to find, taste, and then stock wine from the smaller Estates and independent winemakers who buy grapes and produce outstanding wine under their own labels – much the same as the French negociants have been doing for centuries. Given that these winemakers make wine in such small quantities, sometimes just a single barrel, their wine will never be found on the shelves of the major retailers, but only in specialist shops like Wine & Company on High Street, Hermanus. In addition to the great selection of well-known wines and MCC’s, we also stock local craft gin and beer, French Champagne, Belgian Ales as well as whisky and other spirits. Wine & Company (established in 1998 by Bartho Eksteen) has a well-earned reputation for stocking hard-to-find small-batch wines and we strive to continue this great tradition. If you purchase a bottle of wine from us and it is faulty we will gladly replace the bottle and return the faulty wine to the winemaker. Feel free to contact Wine & Company if you need a particular wine and we will do our best to source it for you. We are also able to ship wine locally and to most countries so do ask about international shipping. Thank you for your support – stay safe – see you soon! |
