Winemaker Franco Lourens has been producing wine under his own label since 2016. His philosophy is simple: “We truly believe that the special vineyards and unique sites where our grapes come from, has the biggest influence on our wines. We don’t add any yeast, acid, enzymes or fining agents and we only use older neutral oak barrels for maturation.” His total production is not very big and the brand is still relatively unknown, but it certainly shouldn’t be!

Description

44% Grenache, 28% Cinsault and 28% Syrah, all sourced from the Swartland, some 40% fermented with stems, before maturation lasting 10 months in old 300- and 500-litre barrels. Expressive aromatics of red and black berries, orange, olive, lavender and herbs while the palate has good fruit concentration, snappy acidity and crunchy tannins. Juicy on entry but ends savoury, the different components combining to good effect. Christian Eedes’ rating: 94/100.
