Thamnus wines originate in a remote corner of the Overberg, South Africa, where renowned wine regions converge. In close proximity to Walker Bay and overlooking the Hemel-en-Aarde valley, the vineyards benefit from exceptional wine-growing conditions found only here. Our unique terroir also nurtures the rare mountain rose, Orothamnus Zeyheri for which our wines are named. The vineyards traverse North-facing slopes set 285m above sea level, where extended sunlight and cool nights come together with ancient Cape soils to yield expressive Pinot Noir and Chardonnay wines. Inspired by the Orothamnus Zeyheri, Thamnus Wines are distinct, rare and beautifully crafted by our terroir.

Description
TASTING NOTES The 2022 Chardonnay epitomises elegance and balance with a backbone of ocean-infused acidity. It unveils prominent notes of citrus and ripe white peach, intricately interwoven with nuances of spiced almonds and fynbos honey. The integration of French oak enriches its textured palate, while a vibrant acidity ensures structural harmony. The wine exemplifies a seamless fusion of old-world sophistication and new-world innovation, marking it a distinctive expression of its terroir.
WINEMAKING 50% of the grapes were pressed whole bunch and naturally settled for 48 hours in stainless steel tank after which we racked it to barrel. The remainder of the grapes were destemmed, pressed and settled with enzymes for 24 hours. Fermentation took 2 weeks, and the barrels were topped and left for maturation for 9 months prior to bottling. 29% new French oak was chosen for this vintage.
